The Dining: Supermercado, The New Kid in Town
Updated: Nov 8, 2018

There’s a new kid in town! A Latin-American kid. On the location where Cocktailbar and Club Blender used to be, perfectly located on the Witte de Withstraat, Supermercado opened its doors last week. There’s still a club downstairs (called Avondwinkel) and the cocktails are still superb as the bartender told me: ‘The cocktails we’re making are like nothing you’ve tried before. I would recommend the Trust your Gut with Jalapeno pisco.’ Sounds good. It’s 3pm when I visit the place, so I promise to come back later.

The restaurant is open for dinner only (they hope to open for lunch soon) and the idea is to share Latin-American inspired dishes like Ceviche, Taco’s and grilled meat from Argentina and Uruguay. The interior is totally different than Blender used to be: spacious and light. Bringing South-American food to non-South-American countries is hot these days. Look at Tacombi and El Presidente in New York or Nino Viejo in Barcelona. Now you can have your empenadas in Rotterdam too!
